Social media post ideas for small businesses: a 2027 plan

Content pillars, a weekly rhythm you can keep, 30 example posts and the key dates of 2027, so you always know what to post next.

Updated 30 October 2026 · EcommFusion

Most small businesses do not run out of things to sell. They run out of things to post. A simple plan fixes that: a few content pillars, a weekly rhythm you can keep, a bank of ideas, and the key dates marked in advance. This guide gives you all four for 2027, plus a light way to see what is working.

Start with three to five content pillars

A content pillar is a theme you come back to again and again. Pillars stop you from posting only “buy now” messages, and they make it easier to decide what to post on a busy morning. For most small businesses, these five cover nearly everything:

  • Product: what you sell, how it works, who it is for.
  • Behind the scenes: how things are made, packed and chosen.
  • Teach: useful tips related to your products, even for people who never buy.
  • Community: customers, reviews, questions and local connections.
  • Offers: launches, restocks and sales, kept to a small share of your posts.

A weekly posting rhythm you can keep

Consistency matters more than volume. Three good posts a week, every week, beat daily posts for a fortnight followed by silence. Here is a simple rhythm to adapt:

DayPillarExample
MondayTeachA quick tip or how-to
WednesdayBehind the scenesA packing or making clip
FridayProduct or offerA product in use, or a restock
Weekend (optional)CommunityA customer photo or a question

Batch the work. Spend one hour at the start of the week writing captions and one session a month taking photos and short videos. Short video works well on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube Shorts, so film once and share the clip in several places, adjusting the caption for each.

Key dates for 2027

Plan posts for these dates about two weeks ahead, so you have time to photograph products and schedule. Weekdays below were checked against the 2027 calendar.

Some dates move each year or differ by country, so check your local date before you plan around them: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Lunar New Year, Easter, Eid, Diwali, Thanksgiving, school holidays and local shopping festivals. Only post about the occasions that matter to your customers.

How to track what is working

You do not need a complex dashboard. Once a month, spend twenty minutes on a simple review:

  • Write down five numbers per platform: followers, reach, saves, shares and link clicks. Saves and shares usually tell you more about useful content than likes do.
  • Tag your links with UTM parameters, so Google Analytics or your store reports show which posts bring visitors and sales.
  • Note your top three posts and which pillar each came from. Make more of what works.
  • Drop one thing that takes effort but gets little response.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a small business post on social media?

Pick a rhythm you can keep for the whole year. Three posts a week on one or two platforms is a realistic start for most small businesses, and it is better than posting daily for a short time and then stopping.

What should a small business post when it has nothing new to sell?

Use your content pillars. Teach a tip, show how something is made or packed, share a customer photo with permission, or answer a question people often ask. None of these need a new product.

Which 2027 dates should I plan social posts around?

Start with the dates that matter to your customers, such as New Year, Valentine’s Day, Black Friday on Friday 26 November 2027 and the year-end holidays. For dates that vary by country, such as Mother’s Day, check your local date.
